摘要
The demand for a greater track density in new tape drives has resulted in a need for a more accurate lateral tape motion (LTM) measuring method. A method is outlined using the output voltage of a head read element that has been adjusted to be halfway off the recorded track on tape as a monitor of lateral motion. An analysis based on repeatability of data has also been presented in which the LTM attributed to tape edge irregularities can be effectively reduced leaving only what is considered true LTM.
