Confidence intervals for true scores: Is there a correct approach?

Five well-known confidence interval approaches were presented and scrutinized for the purpose of determining which approach is correct. Two theoretical conceptualizations for confidence intervals were presented. The conclusion was reached that two of the approaches were correct and the others were conceptually unsound. The correct approaches are: (a) the standard error of measurement centered on the obtained score, and (b) the standard error of estimate centered on the estimated true score.
