Multidisciplinary Engineering Education Through Marine Engineering Projects

This paper presents a project based approach which encourages multidisciplinary learning for electrical and mechanical engineering students at polytechnic level. Our primary objective is to inculcate a multidisciplinary mindset for engineering students. Tackling the real world problems easily grasp the students' attention and lift their sense of worth. Projects inspired from marine engineering proved to be a realistic and viable application platform as marine engineering applications cover a wide range of engineering concepts taught in the engineering curriculum and it is inherently multidisciplinary. In this paper, we will present our experience and observations on student learning and present some of the interesting student projects.
