摘要
An automatic reporting device (transponder) fitted to a ship would be beneficial to the safety of navigation and the control and monitoring of the maritime environment. Now, an automatic reporting system has been developed for the maritime industry using the maritime VHF band for the transmission and reception of its data signals, and has been defined as a Universal Shipborne Automatic Identification System (AIS). In this paper the short description of AIS is given and, as most essential, the operational aspects and problems of its introduction are discussed.
