To mark the centenary of Satyajit Ray's birth on 2 May, we republish an edited version of an extended interview the great Indian director gave to the magazine in 1970, as well as a piece Ray himself wrote for 'Sight & Sound' in 1957, chronicling the torments and triumphs that went into making his 1955 debut feature, 'Pather Panchali'
