Anti-Racist Activism and Community Self-Care at the University of Michigan

This article traces recent anti-racist activism at the University of Michigan through the lens of one particular organization, the United Coalition for Racial Justice. I draw several lessons from the experience of organizing our Speak Out! event, including the importance of self-care, the challenges of organizing across race and place in the university, and the importance of honoring our sheroes from within and without the academic industrial complex. Finally, I analyze small and large ways we can disrupt the institutional cooptation of radicalism.
