Polarimetric Doppler measurements for weather radar applications

摘要
Availability of simultaneous Doppler and polarimetric information would be advantegeous to improve weather radar capabilities and performance. Many algorithms for polarimetric parameters estimation have been proposed and analysed. Doppler spectrum and Doppler parameters estimation has also been widely discussed in the case of single polarization radars. If more than one polarization is transmitted Doppler spectrum estimation is based on data from just one polarimetric channel, what leads to a reduction of the effective PRF with its well known consequences. In this paper, a new polarimetric algorithm for Doppler spectrum estimation is proposed. Doppler parameters and Doppler spectrum estimated with this method are not affected by polarization changes in transmission and the effective PRF equals the PRF of the system.
