Cancer has very rarely been reported in persons with the fragile X syndrome. In this paper we report a case of Ewing sarcoma and review the literature on neoplasms in persons with fragile X syndrome. Only 24 malignant tumors have been reported, mainly from digestive organs (eight), from the central nervous system (four) and from the hematopoietic tissue (three). An epidemiologic study indicates a reduced frequency of cancer in this condition. Cancer seems particularly rare in persons with fragile X syndrome. Nevertheless, the possibility of a malignant neoplasm must be kept in mind as in our case.
