Isothermal and Cyclic Oxidation of Ti3Al0.5Si0.5C2 Compounds Between 900 and 1100°C

摘要
Ti3Al0.5Si0.5C2 was oxidized isothermally and cyclically between 900 and 1100 degrees C in air for up to 100 h. It exhibited relatively good thermal shock resistance due mainly to the similarity of thermal expansion coefficients of the oxides. The oxidation resistance of Ti3Al0.5Si0.5C2 was not excellent because of the presence of a semi-protective rutile-TiO2, which formed together with highly protective alpha-Al2O3 and amorphous SiO2. Isothermally and cyclically formed scales had the same structure.
