摘要
beta-type titanium alloy, Ti-29Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr, which composed of non-toxic elements with low modulus of elasticity is newly developed for biomedical applications. Forging, cold rolling and heat treatments were conducted in order to achieve excellent mechanical performance. Also, the tensile tests, measurements of modulus of elasticity and evaluation of cyto-toxicity were carried out in order to investigate the basic mechanical and biological properties of the alloy. The balance of strength and ductility of the alloy is equivalent or greater, and the modulus of elasticity and the cyto-toxicity are equivalent or lower as compared with those of conventional biomedical titanium alloys. Newly developed beta-type titanium alloy, Ti-29Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr, is, therefore, judged to be suitable for biomedical applications.
