On the role of twinning in solid-state reactions

摘要
A new concept of the role of twinning in processes of plastic deformation is proposed which suggests mechanical twinning to be the main mechanism of solid-state reactions under the deformation mixing of components, in particular, the grinding of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and yttrium oxide (Y2O3) powders, as a result of which yttrium-aluminum garnet (Y3Al5O12) particles are formed.
