Synthesis of Nanocrystalline Yttrium Iron Oxides and their Activity for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

摘要
Nanocrystalline yttrium iron oxides were successfully synthesized via a citrate chelating process using yttrium nitrate and iron nitrate as precursors. YFeO3 or Y3Fe5O12 could be prepared by the controlled thermal transformation with different Y/Fe initial ratios. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption, Raman spectroscopy, thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis absorption spectra and photoluminescence spectra. Under visible light irradiation, YFeO3 synthesized with the Y/Fe ratio of 1/2 had the highest photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution. Heat-treatment also showed considerable effects on hydrogen evolution.
