摘要
Cities and transit authorities are procuring hybrid streetcars with onboard energy storage systems (OESSs). The energy storage system needs to be protected from both external and internal ground faults that may transfer to the vehicle. A hybrid streetcar has an OESS consisting of lithium batteries or supercapacitors, with an OESS converter connected to, or integrated with, the traction inverter. During a ground fault of the high-voltage (HV) circuit, the freewheeling diode in an OESS charger creates a fault path between the energy storage elements and the ground. © 2018 IEEE.
