Investigating the integration of public and private pharmaceutical supply chains

Pharmaceutical supply chains are of utmost importance. Many people's lives are dependent on well-functioning pharmaceutical supply chains. However, low- and medium-income countries often face stockouts due to the poor management of supply chains as well as resource shortages. In this paper the possibility of integrating public and private pharmaceutical supply chains is investigated in order to improve the supply of pharmaceuticals. In addition, a framework is created that could assist decision makers with the assessment of pharmaceutical supply chains in order to identify opportunities for beneficial public-private supply chain integration.
