Hermite-Gaussian beams with orbital angular momentum

摘要
The cylindrical lens brings the orbital angular momentum (OAM) into the original Hermite-Gaussian (HG) beam. The OAM of such a beam is the sum of the vortex and astigmatic components, and can reach large values (tens and hundreds of thousands per photon). We get the exact formula for OAM of such astigmatic HG (aHG) beams. Using intensity distributions of the aHG beam in foci of two cylindrical lenses, we measure the normalized OAM of the elliptic aHG beam, which differs only by 7% from its theoretical OAM value (experimental OAM is -13.62, theoretical OAM is -14.76).
