摘要
The TMD (Theater Missile Defense) Testbed is a distributed simulation testbed capable of supporting development, evaluation, and demonstration of Raytheon's TMD systems. The original Testbed suite consisted of four software models of physical battlespace entities (TOC, sensor, launcher, and missile models), all coded in C++ for the Solaris 2.5.1 operating system. It was built around MaK Technologies' VR-Link Toolkit (version 2.4.3), which provides DIS messaging capabilities. The DIS protocol (IEEE standard 1278.1) will be rendered obsolete by a DoD mandate on the first day of fiscal year 2001; all relevant simulations must be based on the new High Level Architecture (HLA) by this date. Given this mandate, and the need to convert the TMD Testbed from DIS to HLA, a task was funded to gain experience with HLA using the testbed as a vehicle for learning. Many code changes were required and many lessons learned. This paper addresses some of the issues uncovered in transitioning from DIS to HLA and provides the lessons learned to other Raytheon programs with future HLA needs.
