Radioactive assessment of fish products marketed by Costa Rica

Low level counting techniques with a hyper pure germanium detector were used to analyse the Cs-137 and K-40 contents in tuna fish filets during the period 1992 to 1995 and in sardine samples during the period 1994 to 1995. The average value of the specific activities for Cs-137 is 0.59 +/- 0.21 Bq.kg(-1) in tuna filets and 0.39 +/- 0.09 Bq.kg(-1) in sardine; this is rather low and comparable to concentrations found in other species elsewhere.
