40 Gbit/s ETDM is the enabling technology for multi-Terabit transmission systems. In this paper we report on 40 Gbit/s chip-sets, discuss the performance of WDM/ETDM systems, and present results of recent high-capacity system experiments. (C) 1999 Optical Society of America.
