A Novel Miniaturized Dual-band Antenna Loaded with Left-handed Metamaterial for Wireless Communication Applications

摘要
A compact printed antenna working for WLAN and WiMAX applications is presented, which is composed of a T-shaped monopole and two novel symmetrical left-handed metamaterial (LHM) unit cells. The T-shaped monopole with a partial defected ground plane is designed for the middle WiMAX band as a feed antenna. The LHM unit cells is excited by the feed antenna, which generate a passband of the lower WLAN band and improve the performance of gains and radiation patterns simultaneously. The load of LHM unit cells makes the antenna realize a miniaturized size of 0.25 lambda(0) X 0.13 lambda(0) X 0.01 lambda(0), where lambda(0) is the free-space wavelength of 3.5 GHz. The simulation results present the impedance bandwidths are 40 and 360 MHz for the 2.5 and 3.5 GHz bands, respectively, and the radiation patterns are approximately omnidirectional in H-plane.
