Electrochemical oxidation of pyrrhotine in alkaline media

摘要
Electrochemical oxidation of pyrrhotine in alkaline media is studied. The oxidation involves two stages. In the first stage, which is presumably limited by the charge transfer rate, an amorphous product, comprising hydroxides of iron and sulfur, forms on the mineral surface. At more positive potentials sulfide sulfur oxidizes to ions of thiosulfate, sulfite, and sulfate. The second stage is probably limited by diffusion.
