Explosive contraction of a current in a cylindrical current-carrying shell

摘要
A study is made of current contraction in a thin cylindrical plasma shell; this process is associated with electron MHD effects arising when the electrons enter denser plasma regions. Exact criteria are derived for the development of current contraction, which violates the axial symmetry of the shell.
