Mucopolysaccharidose type VII in a domestic cat. A case report

Mucopolysaccharidose (MPS) type VII is a rare disease caused by a deficiency of beta-glucuronidase. We report a case of MPS VII in a domestic cat. Diagnosis was based on decreased beta-glucuronidase values in peripheral leukocytes and cultivated fibroblasts. The important clinical findings were a broad face, small rounded ears, short nose, bilateral corneal clouding, plump front paws, during the course of disease increasing neurological deficits and atrophy of the muscles on both hind legs. The cat had to be euthanized because of severe neurologic deficits and bone changes.
