摘要
The study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial capacities of the sea buckthorn oil treated with ionizing radiation. Oil of sea buckthorn pulp was treated with accelerated electron beams of 6 MeV mean energy at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The content of beta-carotene, lycopene and alpha-tocopherol were determined by HPLC while the antioxidant activity was evaluated by measurement of lipid peroxidation for treated sea buckthorn oil in comparison to control sample. The antimicrobial activity of treated and untreated oil was carried out by standard qualitative and quantitative methods on Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and fungal strains. The results showed the decrease of the antioxidant capacity as the increase of the irradiation dose, the most affected being the alpha-tocopherol. The antimicrobial activity was not detectable by the qualitative assay while the preliminary results of the quantitative assay showed that the tested samples exhibited low minimum inhibitory concentration values.
