Investigations on electrocaloric properties of ferroelectric Pb(Mg0.067Nb0.133Zr0.8)O3

In this letter, ferroelectric Pb(Mg0.067Nb0.133Zr0.8)O-3 (PMNZ) shows an electrocaloric effect at high temperature. This work is based on a phenomenological model of the electrocaloric effect in PMNZ using experimental data of polarization versus electric field and temperature. It is showed that the cooling Delta T per unit field MV m(-1) in PMNZ is significantly larger and is comparable with value of the famous lead-containing bulk ceramics such as PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 and PMN-PT (Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-PbTiO3). This sample is consequently very interesting material in the framework of electrocaloric refrigeration devices for automotive, aerospace, or food industries. (C) 2013 AIP Publishing LLC
