This editorial introduces a new effort to identify the most exemplary research being conducted on violence and aggression. The tremendous surge in research and publications on violence research has been a boon to the field in many ways, contributing to a vast body of knowledge on the causes and consequences of violence and our efforts to prevent it, and intervene when it does occur. Knowledge generation, however, is not, in and of itself, sufficient. We have not yet solved the enormous challenges in knowledge integration and synthesis. To promote better knowledge management, I have invited a panel of five senior researchers who have worked to identify scholarship that they believe has the potential to advance the field and direct future research on violence, i.e. to find the best violence research published-in any outlet-in 2011.
