STRUGGLES BETWEEN SUGAR FACTORIES AND SUGAR BEET GROWERS FOR PRICE OF SUGAR BEET IN MORAVIA AND SILESIA IN FIRST DECADE OF CZECHOSLOVAK REPUBLIC

Throughout the first decade of the new Czechoslovak state, sugar beet growers and sugar factories were "struggling" for the price of sugar beet. The article presents a brief look at the issue of sugar industry, which represented important export industry of the Czech lands, as it was built up during the Hapsburg monarchy. Under the new conditions of the Republic, "price bidding" between the two main actors in sugar production continued. Attention is paid to the situation in Moravian and Silesian environment where this rivalry was not without political influences and interventions of their organizational structures into the annually recurring "struggles" for the beet price. "The struggles" were held on the background of the current price situation on world sugar markets. Later establishment of the sugar cartel helped to calm the situation, which helped to stabilize the prices of sugar beet.
