Resident Education in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology From a Residency Program Director's Perspective

OBJECTIVE: To survey program directors about residency training in pediatric and adolescent gynecology (PAG). STUDY DESIGN: A computer-assisted survey instrument was developed and sent to 240 residency program directors of obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) residencies. Demographic information for the program directors themselves, curriculum design and subjective assessment of adequacy were assessed. RESULTS: Complete responses were obtained from 54 residency program directors. The majority of graduating residents from these programs choose a generalist position following residency, and the majority of residency program directors consider OB/GYN as a primary care specialty. Significant deficiencies in PAG core curriculum educational objectives were identified. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the residency program directors' assessments on the adequacy of training in PAG and identify deficiencies in education in this field.
