In the field of nonlinear optics (NLO), the organic materials are relatively new comers compared to inorganic materials. Benzimidazole is an organic material presenting high nonlinear optical behaviour especially for second harmonic generation. Single crystals of benzimidazole are grown from vertical bridgman technique (VBT) by optimizing the growth conditions. The grown single crystals have been subjected to various characterization studies such as thermal, optical and mechanical properties. The obtained results and summary are given. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.
