摘要
This study aims to explore the cross-cultural adaptation as undergone by Indonesian students in South Korea. The study uses a qualitative approach based on a four-stage model of cross-cultural adjustment consisting of the phases of honeymoon, crisis, recovery and adjustment. It involves in-depth interviews with 10 Indonesian students studying in Busan. The study found that the main barriers of cross-cultural communication include differences in language andvalues of friendship. Such cultural differences led to prejudice that eventually brought up stereotypes and discrimination. The study also identified the cultural shock faced by some of the informants as well as their strategies to cope with it.
