Semiclosed endarterectomy of the superficial femoral artery belongs in the armamentarium of the vascular surgeon. New technology offers the possibility of performing this less invasive operation so that only a single incision is needed to obtain access to the artery and perform remote disobliteration. There are strong indications that the anticipated restenosis of long, segmental, closed endarterectomies can be reduced remarkably by expanded polytetrafluoroethylene endolining.
