The preparation of the bis-tertiary phosphine C-2(PBu(2))(2) (dpba) is described. Pyrolysis of the ruthenium carbonyl derivative {Ru-3(CO)(11}?2(mu-dbpa) gives Ru-5(mu(5)-C(2)PBu(2))(mu-PBu(2))(CO)(13) [in 41% overall yield from Ru-3(CO)(12))] which in turn reacts with Me(2)S(2) to give Ru-5(mu(5)-C-2)(mu-SMe)(2)(mu-PBu(2))(2)(CO)(11) (19%).
