NTT Communications provides consultancy, architecture, security, and cloud services backed by its worldwide network to optimize information, communications, and technology (ICT) environments. From the viewpoint of such a network service provider, this article discusses issues and a new paradigm for optical communications and networks. © 1979-2012 IEEE.
