摘要：

The article deals with evaluating the contribution of regions of Slovakia. We are talking about regional disparities. We talk about the instruments of regional development and their institutional weaknesses. Discusses the competence and legitimacy of local governments in promoting regional development. Here are the results of research on the qualitative indicators of territorial self-government. We are making critical conclusions on existing competencies VUC in Slovakia. We propose to strengthen the coordinating power of VUC in determining the development of the regions.
