Geologists have as much interest in the Earth's depths as do astronomers in the depths of the Universe. Seismology has made it possible to divide the globe into layers, identifying the core, the mantle, and the crust. What do the core and mantle consist of? Do the substances they are composed of move? What is the energy at depths? Research into these problems has recently been gaining intensity, and a number of physical, chemical, and geological models have been developed. The article below is oriented toward geology.
