摘要
Information world and scholarly communication system undergo dramatic changes related to the exponentially growing amount of information and rapidly changing information creation, development and management technologies. Currently, an increasing number of scientific journals, books and other information resources are available online. Information searching and retrieving tools are also developing very fast. To be competent at information search and retrieval process and to satisfy the information needs for global scientific knowledge, researchers have to develop knowledge and gain the experience how to search, find and retrieve up-to-date information in the fields they are interested in. Comprehensive analysis has been carried out to reveal and evaluate the information competence of Lithuanian scientists and researchers in their use of e-resources and to identify particular gap in their competence. This paper introduces results of the research and presents recommendations concerning the content, scope, intensity and character of the information competence education of researchers.
