Extremely strong low-frequency oscillations (similar to 35 kHz) predicted earlier were observed experimentally in the channel of a steady-state plasma thruster. These oscillations are mainly caused by fluctuations of the electron temperature and affect the ion beam divergence. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7850(99)01106-4].
