Phase transition in lanthanum doped lead germanate (Pb5Ge3O11) single crystal

摘要
Single crystals of pure(LG), 0.5wt% (LG1) and 1wt% (LG2) lanthanum doped lead germanate were grown by controlled cooling of the melt. The dielectric constant and loss tangent of LG crystals showed sharp maxima at 180 degrees C while for doped crystals LG1 and LG2 are observed at temperatures 160 degrees C and 155 degrees C respectively. The calculated curie constants for LG, LG1 and LG2 are 1.16 x 10(4)K, 2.22 x 10(4)K and 2.42 x 10(4)K respectively. Doping has lowered the ferroelectric transition temperature retaining the ferroelectric nature. These results suggest a tendency towards a diffused phase transition with increasing doping concentration. A possible mechanism for the shift in transition temperature is discussed.
