Mossbauer study of potassium ferrocyanide and ammonium ferric alum crystallization from aqueous solutions in microcapsules

摘要
An equilibrium method was devised in which stoichiometric nanocrystals of soluble compounds crystallize from saturated solutions enclosed in microcapsules as the temperature is lowered. The resultant nanocrystals of potassium ferrocyanide and ammonium ferric alum were characterized by Mossbauer effect measurements. With increasing particle size, the doublet due to quadrupole splitting narrows to a single peak with a width typical of bulk crystals. Quadrupole splitting is attributed to structural changes in nanocrystals rather than to deviations from stoichiometry.
