In the present paper the relation existing between chemical kinetics, reaction mechanisms and reactor modelling is briefly examined by reporting examples of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic reactions. The scope is to give an introductory insight into the more general topic of "Kinetics and Modelling of Catalytic reactions from the laboratory to industrial reactor". (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
