Volatile Constituents of Salvia ceratophylla L. and Salvia indica L. from Iran

摘要
The chemical composition of the essential oils of Salvia ceratophylla and Salvia indica growing wild in Iran were examined by GC and GC-MS. Forty components representing 90.8 % were characterized for S. ceratophylla with palmitic acid (23.9 %), palmitic acid (14.0 %), cis-thujopsene (10.9 %), cyclopentadecanolide (6.1 %), methyl linoleate (4.5 %) and alpha-humulene (3.6 %) as the major constituents. For S. indica twenty one components representing 92.1 % were identified with hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (24.6 %), beta-ionone (10.7 %), palmitic acid (9.6 %) and manoyl oxide (7.8 %) as the major. The essential oil of S. indica was examined for its potential antimicrobial activity.
