Wear measurement using radioactive tracer technique based on proton, deuteron and α-particle induced nuclear reactions on molybdenum

Excitation functions of light ion induced nuclear reactions on natural molybdenum have been studied in the frame of a systematic investigation of charged particle induced nuclear reactions on metals for various applications. Excitation functions of Tc-93.94g,Tc-94m.9505m,Tc-96,Tc-99m. (90.93m.99)mo, Nb-90,Nb-91m,Nb-92m.95m,Nb-95g,Nb-96 and Zr-88,Zr-89 were measured up to 50 MeV deuteron energy Tarkanyi et al., 2012 [1], Tc-93m,Tc-9313,Tc-94m,Tc-9405m.950609m. Mo-90.93m,Mo-99, Nb-90,Nb-92m,Nb-95m.95g,Nb-96 and Zr-98,Zr-89 were measured up to 40 MeV proton energy Tarkanyi et al., 2012 [2] and Tc-93m,Tc-93g.94m,Tc-9405m,Tc-95g,Tc-99m, Mo-93m.99, Nb-90, Nb-99, Ru-94,Ru-96,Ru-97,Ru-103 and Zr-88 were measured up to 40 MeV alpha energy Ditroi et al., 2012 131 by using the stacked foil technique and activation method. The results for He-3 induced reactions on natural Mo were taken from the literature Comparetto and Qaim, 1980 [4]. According to their half-lives, from the above listed radionuclides the Tc-96m96, Nb-91m,Nb-92m,Nb-95m,Nb-95g, Mo-99, Ru-103,Ru-97 and Zr-88 are suitable candidates for wear measurement by using thin layer activation (TLA) method. The goal of this work was to determine the necessary nuclear data for TLA of the above radionuclides and to prove their applicability for wear measurements. (C) 2012 Elsevier BM. All rights reserved.
