Surface fence with an integrated, piezoresistive pressure sensor for measurements of static and dynamic wall shear stress

摘要
A surface fence device used for wall shear stress measurements was improved by integrating a small, piezoresistive pressure sensor placed very close to the fence. The piezoresistive sensor was used to measure a pressure difference of the fence that can be correlated to the local wall shear stress based on the similarity law of the viscous sublayer. The piezoresistive sensor made it possible to use the fence device in measuring both static and dynamic wall shear stresses. This had been tested at fluctuating wall shear stresses in a small circular duct as well as in turbulent boundary layer flows in a wind tunnel up to Mach number of 0.9. The analysed sensor characteristics were calibrations, time traces, power spectra and frequency responses to show typical application ranges and to compare the device with a conventional obstacle wire, a surface hot film and a skin friction balance.
