摘要
The articles synthetizes some aspects approached by my closing speech for the 10th Meetings and Dialogues with Environmental Education (X Encontros e Dialogos coin a Educacao Ambiental - EDEA), at the Federal University of Rio Grande (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande - FURG) in November 2018. It approaches the theme of environmental education in a context of retrogression for the fields of rights, recognition and popular struggle. The first part briefly characterizes contemporary Brazilian capitalism. The following section deals with ontological and methodological specificities of critical environmental education. Finally, I take a stand by reaffirming the timely and strategic importance of critical environmental education in facing the current political and economic crisis and the several resulting forms of life destruction.
