The influence of solids characteristics on the specific oxidant consumption by in-situ chemical oxidation using potassium permanganate

摘要
The in-situ chemical oxidation is a modern innovative decontamination technique, which is based on the infiltration of a strong oxidizing agent into the aquifer, where the pollutants are decomposed to harmless substances. Leaving the technical specifics on a locality out of consideration, the basic limitation factor for a practical utilization restraint is the natural oxidant demand, which is observed on the localities in varying degrees. This study deals with looking for different parameters of solids responsible for non target potassium permanganate consumption. For laboratory experiments the various sample collection was sorted out and the retrieved data were treated by a statistical method. In light of economical and ecological aspect, the limiting factor for the application of this technique is the content of organic carbon in material, which is exposed to permanganate. The permanganate consumption dependence on the organic carbon content has a linear character in a wide range.
