Formal Semantics in Latin America: history and future perspectives

The aim of this interview was to explore the diversity of trajectories and perspectives on Formal Semantics of three researchers working in universities in Uruguay and Argentina that are exponents in their respective research areas. The three are internationally recognized for their work. Ana Polakof and Brenda Laca are professors at Universidad de la Republica (UdelaR) from different academic generations. Brenda had a research background in Europe before working at UdelaR and has an influential work in the areas of tense, aspect, mode and modality, while Ana Clara is a young researcher who has prominent studies in the area of events from both a linguistic and a philosophical perspective. Andres Saab, in turn, is a professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) and a researcher at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas (Conicet). He works on the syntax-semantic interface and has more recently researched insults and expressiveness. The interview with the three researchers is more a focused reflection than an overview, but it presents a good view for those who want to have a dimension of both the history and the future perspective of the area of Formal Linguistics in Latin America, especially in the studies of meaning.
