Acceleration of pulsar winds at the light cylinder.

摘要
The problem of transformation of the Poynting flux into the flux of the kinetic energy of the pulsar winds is considered in the frameworks of ideal magnetohydrodynamics. Two possible mechanisms are discussed. One of them is the magnetocentrifugal acceleration of the relativistic plasma in the pulsar magnetospher. This mechanism can be efficient in the case of nonaxisymmetric rotation of the magnetosphere. Another mechanism is connected with the slow shock mode. Slow mode shock wave located at the Alfven surface results into 100% transformation of the Poynting flux into the flux of the kinetic energy of the plasma.
