摘要
Leachate in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfills are contaminated liquids that contain a number of dissolved or suspended materials. The liner in barrier systems for landfills are to be properly designed, otherwise there may be a danger of contamination of the surrounding soil and ground water. The available soil at the site generally does not have the desired geotechnical properties to be used as liner materials. Use of Geosynthetic products as liner material can isolate the MSW and prevent contamination. In present study an experimental program has been carried out to assess the permeability characteristics of soil-GCL, soil-HDPE combinations as a liner material with leachate of different pH concentrations. Alternate wetting and drying may occur in a GCL in final cover systems of landfill and hence the effect of wetting and drying on the hydraulic conductivity of GCL was monitored. It is observed that the self-sealing capacity of GCL makes them a potentially viable hydraulic barrier to prevent contamination of the environment.
