The Department of Metallurgical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, established over 20 years ago as the only one department in Thailand specialized in metallurgical engineering. The curriculm was developed as an undergraduate program with only a few students and instructors to a full range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs at present Over the past decade various activities to obtain the cooperation and collaboration from the government and industrial organizations were done with highly successful results. This paper aims to explain and discuss the development of the metallurgical engineering education in the department including the efforts to organize program for funding support from the government research institution, Master Degree students and research programs supported from industry, UNESCO-UNISPAR chair professor program, Continuing education program for industry personnel, collaboration program for graduate study with other departments and overseas organizations the problems encountered and countermeasures will be discussed. With the envision of the future needs of the industry, further plan to expand and incorporate new field of technology will also be explained.
