摘要：

The unusual and rather poorly known philosciid terrestrial isopod Philoscia richmondi Richardson, 1901, which was found in the El Yunque forest on Puerto Rico is re-examined. The ascription of this species to the genus Philoscia Latreille, 1804 from the western palearctic is re-evaluated and the dissimilarity of the Puerto Rican species and its 'congeners' is taken into account by the definition of a new monotypical genus, which will be described and figured. The phylogenetic relations of Philoscia richmondi are discussed.
