Building heritage as a source for humanisation of engineering education

The need for humanisation of hard engineering curricula and the necessity of undertaking the related changes in the teaching pattern for supplying a better service to society and heritage is emphasised. Polish system of higher technical education is going to conform to the European and the international standards. Bridging the gap between technology and humanities and filling that niche by applied research and science are one of the major aims of the Technical University of Gdansk strategic mission. Further exploration of heritage through revised curricula and the transition of its values to the students, is foreseen. Such an experimental undertaking is the course on Building & Civil Engineering Heritage, developed at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, presented and discussed within this paper.
